Dorothy Jean Cookston, 91, resident of port Orchard, went home to be with the Lord on August 09, 2017.
She was born to Olaf and Sophie (Hendrickson) Risland, on August 4, 1926 in Bemidji, Minnesota Dorothy grew up with 7 brothers and 4 sisters on a farm, she was always hard at work helping her siblings and mother. In 1945 the family moved to Oregon, from there Dorothy moved with her sister, Peg to San Francisco, California to find jobs and start a career. It was there that she met her one and only love, Ernie. They married in Nevada and had two children; son, David and daughter, Carole (Rick) and 1 grandson, Shawn.
The family travelled around for 20 years, while Ernie was in the Navy. After retirement they settled in Bremerton. Dorothy loved America, the flag and all the military services who protected our country. There was always a flag flying at her home.
Dorothy was a member of Sylvan Way Baptist church for over 50 years. She attended Bible College and had extensive biblical training. During those 50 years she served the Lord in many ways, she was a deaconess, a counselor, a teacher and she loved to witness and to bring people to accept the Lord. She was also a member of the women's autoharp group; they sang and played for senior citizens and other functions.
She really loved helping people out spiritually, it meant a lot to her. She truly loved the children of the world. She had a big heart and really loved her family, her church family and friends.
Dorothy was a wonderful cake decorator, and made so many beautiful cakes for weddings, birthdays, church functions, friends and family.

Dorothy loved the Lord with all her heart and she will be missed by so many.
